Locating the Map with Floating Candles by House

Unlocking this side quest begins with obtaining the Map with Floating Candles during house-specific main quests. Gryffindor students can retrieve the map from a tombstone in the Hogsmeade graveyard, while Hufflepuff players find it behind a shop in Upper Hogsfield. Ravenclaw players must climb to the top of the Owlery, and Slytherin wizards can locate the chest inside Apollonia's Grotto.

Regardless of where your character discovers the parchment, the visual clues on the map remain identical. The sketch highlights a landmark bridge, a dark forest, floating candles, and a night sky. Recognizing these symbols allows you to set your destination without relying on standard quest waypoints.

Reaching the Starting Landmark at Night

To begin the active search for the treasure, fast travel to the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame location. It is crucial that you attempt this quest during nighttime hours, as the magic will not trigger in daylight. Once darkness falls, walk toward the nearby stone bridge situated right at the forest border. Position your character near the entrance of the bridge and cast the Lumos spell with your wand. Bringing light to this specific spot causes three enchanted floating candles to appear in front of you.
